How To Stay Calm and Productive During COVID-19

As we all now know, covid-19 has hit us all. In all honesty, I thought this would be over by now, but it seems that instead of it fading out in the background, COVID-19 is tightening its grasp more and more.

I live in Los Angeles, California. So far, Europe has been hit the hardest, and it seems that New York, Washington, and California have now been smacked as well. The majority of all businesses have been shut down, everybody is expected to stay home unless it’s for food, etc. And now with testing kits being out, the panic only grows because we now know just how many people are infected and how many people are dying.

However, we also know how many people are surviving. According to this live update — we have over 100k people who have recovered. And, while yes I understand that number is lower in comparison to the number of people that are infected which is over 300k, I think we should look at this as a glass-half-full situation. Things WILL get better, and they are on the right TRACK to get better.

I think the most important thing right now, is to learn to adapt to our circumstances. It took me a few weeks to truly understand and face reality, I refused to believe that the flu was harming so many lives. I refused to learn more and understand what’s going on. The longer you stay in denial, the worst it will get. All we can do right now is to adapt, stay positive, make good use of our time, and stay healthy.

For years you said, “if I only had the time.” Don’t squander this gift.

Invest in yourself

Think of every single book you’ve been wanting to read, you ended up ordering it off Amazon, and now it’s been sitting on your nightstand collecting dust.

Think of the novel you’ve been wanting to write. I know you have all of the ideas written down in a journal. Dig it up.

Think of that TV show you’ve been dying to watch, why not spend a few evenings watching it? It’s the little things.

Remember how you said you would learn how to cook? Now is YOUR time to kill it in the kitchen.

Have you been wanting to start a business but haven’t had the time? What if this time that was miraculously dropped on your hands is a blessing in disguise? What if you can finally invest that time into this new business idea? What if you can transform your life during this chaos?

Take care of your health

Currently, all of the gyms are closed.

I understand the frustration regarding that, trust me I know. I literally got kicked out of the gym the morning that the closure of all public places was announced. I remember because I had 4 minutes left on the stair-master and I was sweating bullets. I was out of breath, and the maintenance guy was tapping his foot asking me to hurry up because he had to lock the place up. In my defense, nobody ever goes to that gym. I was extremely frustrated.

Nevertheless, in a situation like this, a situation that is wreaking havoc and stress on your mental health, you need to make sure you are taking good care of yourself. The gym is closed? Jog outside. Maintain social distancing while doing so. Google at-home-workouts, order a few bands, weights, yoga balls, etc online and you will be set. I understand it will be a hard transition — it has been for me, but I’m slowly getting the hang of it, and you will too.

Eat good food as well, consume vitamins daily in order to protect your immune system right now. I understand you’re strong and healthy and you never get sick, but take the proper actions to ensure you stay that way.

Prepare yourself

If we’re being completely honest here, we still don’t know what will happen. This could be over in a month, this could go on for two months, or in a nypost, Trump says: “that it may be July or August before the deadly coronavirus “washes through” and normalcy can be restored.” —

It seems that the news change on a daily in regards to when all of this will end. I think it’s important to just be aware of everything and while you don’t need to hoard all of the toilet paper or buy an extra freezer to hold pounds of extra food — I would recommend buying essentials, and perhaps buying just a little something extra in case grocery stores do get bad. I waited in line to go to Trader Joes for quite a while, the same with a few local grocery stores.

Also, stock up on necessities. Buy some extra vitamins, some immunity-boosting shots, things you typically run out of quick so you wouldn’t need to constantly go to the store. This is simply something to help you in this time of chaos.

Create a routine that feels normal

It’s important to try your best to move forward. Do things you would regularly do to maintain some sort of normalcy in your life.

If you wake up early and do your workouts in the morning, continue doing so!

If you have a particular kind of breakfast during the week, have it!

If you have a certain set of working hours throughout the day, try to maintain them!

This will not only give you peace of mind, but when the world gets back to normal, you’ll be able to ease back into your routine much more smoother.

Also, start incorporating things into your daily life to boost your mood and positivity. Whether that be doing some yoga, or meditation, perhaps you enjoy listening to worship music or podcasts or sermons, perhaps reading calms you down, or a cup of chamomile tea. Another great option would be some self-care in the evenings.

Find what makes you feel good, and do more of it.

Work — don’t just lounge around all-day

I know this might feel like a time to forget your responsibilities and sell your soul to the TV remote, but it’s in your absolute best interest to not do that.

In this world you’re either growing or you’re dying, so get in motion and grow.

I understand that I am unaware of your situation, I don’t know what you do for work or what your life is like, but I can guarantee that lounging around from dawn till night every single day will not benefit you or anybody for that matter.

When I say work, I don’t just mean self-development and investing in yourself. We already covered that topic in the beginning.

I mean actually work.

Do things that need to get done around the house. Mow the lawn, do the dishes, do the laundry, clean out your closet, cleaning can be very therapeutic if you allow it to be. Create a clean and uncluttered environment that you actually want to be in and you actually want to work in.

We will all get through this together.
